Desired Benefits

How microneedling works

Microneedling (also known as collagen induction therapy) uses a motorised device with ultrafine needles to create tiny punctures in the skin. This process stimulates the body’s natural healing response, which in turn activates new collagen and elastin production. The aim is to support skin repair, improve texture, and soften the visible effects of ageing or scarring. Results vary between individuals.

Introducing the Dermapen 4™

At Samara Aesthetics, microneedling treatments are performed using the Dermapen 4™, a medical-grade skin-needling device included on the ARTG. The device is designed to deliver controlled precision and consistency, with the ability to enhance absorption of topical serums applied during treatment. Learn more about the Dermapen 4™ in our article here.

Dermapen 4™: Targeted Treatment, Natural Repair

Dermapen 4™ is a medical-grade microneedling device designed to create precise micro-channels in the skin while minimising surface trauma. This controlled technique supports the body’s natural healing response and collagen production. Under professional care, it may be used to address concerns such as ageing skin, uneven texture, scarring, pigmentation and more.

Anti-ageing

Dermapen 4™ microneedling is designed to stimulate the skin’s natural healing response, which may support collagen and elastin production and help soften the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Scarring

Dermapen 4™ microneedling may help improve the appearance of various types of scars, including acne scarring and surgical scars.

Pigmentation

Microneedling with Dermapen 4™ does not use heat, so it avoids the heat-related risks sometimes associated with certain laser treatments. It may assist in improving the appearance of uneven pigmentation and skin tone by supporting the skin’s natural repair processes.

Stretch marks

Dermapen 4™ microneedling can be considered as a suitable treatment option for stretch marks. It works by supporting the skin’s natural healing response, which may help soften their visible appearance over time.

Enlarged pores

Microneedling with Dermapen 4™ is designed to create controlled micro-channels in the skin, which may support new collagen production. Over time, this process can help refine skin texture and soften the visible appearance of enlarged pores. Results vary between individuals.

Acne

Microneedling with Dermapen 4™ may help improve overall skin texture and clarity, which in some cases can reduce the visible appearance of blackheads and whiteheads. It is not a treatment for active acne, and suitability will always be assessed in consultation with a medical practitioner.

It all starts with a consultation
with a medically trained doctor...

At Samara Aesthetics, every patient begins with a one-on-one consultation conducted by one of our qualified medical professionals. Each practitioner is registered with AHPRA and has been directly trained and is closely supervised by Dr Sam Aravinth, our lead cosmetic doctor.

During your consultation, your practitioner will take the time to understand your goals, review your medical history, and answer your questions before suggesting suitable treatment options tailored to you. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach, no pushy sales talk — just caring, considered, evidence-based advice.

FAQS

Results are typically seen after just one month. Your skin’s regenerative process will continue for up to 24 months following a procedure.

Typically, we recommend the following protocols:

  • Skin rejuvenation – 3 to 4 treatments, 4 weeks apart
  • Acne scarring – 4 to 6 treatments 6 weeks apart
  • Stretch marks – up to 10 treatments, 4 to 6 weeks apart

The Dermapen 4™ is far less painful than other microneedling devices. Consequently, numbing the area before treatment is not necessary. You’ll be given after-care products to soothe and camouflage any visible redness or heat sensations.

Yes. However, the procedure must only be performed by a qualified practitioner under strict sterile conditions. All treatment products are single-use and sterile.

Typically, there is no downtime. However, you may experience localised redness for up to 2 days after your procedure. Most people can resume normal activities immediately after the treatment. You must avoid wearing make-up until the following day.

Dermapen 4 is different to similar products on the market for several reasons. It is more comfortable, works more quickly than other devices, boasts minimal downtime after treatment, can cover larger areas, and is less invasive on the skin.

Dermapen 4 can visibly improve various conditions, such as ageing or sun-damaged skin, fine lines and wrinkles, acne and breakouts, scarring, pigmentation, rosacea, enlarged pores, stretchmarks, unwanted tattoos and hair loss.

Yes, you can overdo microneedling. It’s recommended that you only have microneedle every 4 to 6 weeks as your skin needs time to heal correctly to produce more collagen and elastin. If you microneedle more frequently, you risk worsening your skin issues.

Numbing medication/cream (topical anaesthesia) is typically applied to the skin before your microneedle procedure to help reduce pain.

If you have a weakened immune system or have health conditions that affect your skin, such as eczema or diabetes, skin needling may not be suitable for you. Check with your medical practitioner for more information.

There may be some bleeding during or straight after microneedling. Therefore, it may not be suitable if you have a clotting bleeding disorder or if you are taking medicine to thin your blood.

Immediately after your treatment, your skin will appear red and slightly inflamed. You may feel as if your face is sunburnt, and your skin may feel tight and uncomfortable for the following 24 to 48 hours. It’s vital that during this time, you follow our after-care instructions.

You should be able to return to work or normal activities the following day. You mustn’t pick at your skin during recovery, as this can increase the risk of scarring or infection. Always protect your skin from the sun and avoid any active home care products such as retinol and fruit acids.

There may be a small amount of bleeding (pinpoint bleeding) during the procedure, but this should not continue once treatment has been completed. Common side effects include skin sensitivity, bruising, and flaking or crusting skin.

In rare cases, patients may experience grazing or infection. Another rare case is hyper or hypopigmentation. If this occurs, Dr Sam will discuss appropriate and effective treatments to remedy this matter.

Skin needling is not appropriate for pregnant or breastfeeding women (if topical anaesthesia is used). It is also unsuitable for those with active acne or inflammatory acne lesions, active infections are wounds or individuals who have taken a course of Roaccutane in the past six months. If individuals are smokers or taking blood thinning medications, precautions must be taken.
