What is a PRP injection?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is an innovative treatment option for those looking to improve the health of their skin with a safe and effective procedure. The PRP injections technique isolates use your blood platelets and reinjects them back into select areas of the face to kickstart your body’s natural healing and restoration process which reinvigorates your skin. The effects associated with the deterioration of collagen (wrinkles, scars, stretch marks, large pores) will be reduced leaving you with better looking and feeling skin.

How do PRP injections work?

Our blood consists mainly of the following components: white blood cells, red blood cells, platelets, and plasma. Platelets are a collection of cells found in the blood that are essential to the healing process in our body. Not only do they control bleeding but they also have growth factors and proteins that encourage repair, regeneration and healing in our bodies.

It is this natural ability of the platelets that we use to help bring about healing to a tired and worn face.

The procedure

Once the consultation is complete, the first step taken will be the taking of your blood. Your blood is in the same manner that blood tests are conducted. Following collection, this blood will then be treated to isolate only the platelets. The highly concentrated platelet-rich plasma is then re-injected back into your skin (after the application of anaesthetic cream).

Within just a few days’ time, your skin will begin to look reinvigorated, healthier and glowing. We recommend repeating the procedure in 4-6 weeks’ time to maximise the results and then every year afterwards to maintain your youthful glow.

  • What condition is PRP best for?

It is best for treating uneven pigmentation and for re-hydration of skin.

  • How can it best used for me?

PRP can also be combined with other modalities of aesthetic treatments to enhance results. Depending on your condition it may be prudent to combine PRP with skin needling or laser treatments,

  • How often do I need to have it done?

To maintain best results, PRP should be performed on an annual basis, but some patients are so happy with the results that they have it done at least twice a year to maintain a youthful glow to their skin.

  • How is the procedure performed?

First, your blood is collected in the same way that you would for having a blood test and then this blood is treated while you wait to isolate only the platelets. This highly concentrated platelet-rich plasma is then re-injected back into your skin (after the application of the anaesthetic cream.)

  • How soon will I notice the results?

The skin takes on a glow within mere days of the treatment. To achieve the best results, this should be repeated within 4-6 weeks and then every year to maintain results.

  • Can anyone have PRP?

Yes. Virtually anyone can have PRP therapy. Celebrities like Kim Kardashian have made this treatment popular. Tiger Woods has also had this procedure. In this case the platelets were used to treat a  tendon tear.
