Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections are an innovative, safe and effective treatment option to improve the health of your skin. Also known as a ‘vampire facial’, it is a procedure where your blood platelets are collected and then reinjected into areas of the face.
Platelets have growth factors and proteins which encourage repair, regeneration and healing in our bodies. They kickstart your body’s natural healing and restoration process, reinvigorating your skin.
Wrinkles, scars, stretch marks, large pores and other effects associated with deteriorating collagen levels are reduced, leaving you with better-looking skin.
We’ll take a small amount of your blood, similar to how a blood test is taken. This blood is then treated to isolate the platelets. Next, we’ll numb the area with anaesthetic cream, then reinject the highly concentrated platelet-rich plasma into the skin. The procedure will take no longer than 30 minutes.
Our blood consists mainly of the following components: white blood cells, red blood cells, platelets and plasma. Platelets are a collection of cells found in the blood that are essential to the body’s healing process. They control bleeding and have growth factors and proteins that encourage repair, regeneration and healing in our bodies.
We use the natural healing ability of the platelets to bring a youthful and glowing look to your face.
Within a few days, your skin will begin to look reinvigorated, healthier and glowing. We recommend repeating the procedure in 4-6 weeks to maximise the results. These results will continue to improve for up to 12 weeks.
To maintain optimal results, PRP should be performed annually. However, some patients are so happy with the results they have it done at least twice a year to maintain a youthful glow to their skin.
There are virtually no complications from Platelet-rich Plasma (PRP) treatment as the procedure uses your body’s natural blood cells as the product. There may be some minor discomfort for a few days following the procedure, but this is easily treated with paracetamol.
Samara Aesthetics is conveniently located at 918 Beaufort Street, Inglewood, near Morley, Maylands, Mt Lawley, Dianella, Bayswater, Bedford and North Perth.
At Samara Aesthetics, every client starts with a one-on-one consultation with Dr Sam Avarinth, a medically trained cosmetic doctor. He’ll take the time to assess you, listen to questions, and share his knowledge before suggesting suitable, personalised treatment options. There’s no one-size-fits-all, no pushy sales talk — just caring, considered, evidence-based advice.
You’ll notice results from your PRP injections approximately 8 to 12 weeks after treatment, with final results being noticeable after six months. Results are slow and gradual as your body needs the time to create new collagen, elastin and connective tissue.
For optimal results, you’ll need a series of treatments, with three being the preferred number for optimal skin rejuvenation. The effects of your PRP treatment can last from 12 months to 2 years. We recommend having a booster treatment every 12 to 18 months to maintain and improve results
After your treatment, you’ll notice a touch of redness and swelling in the treated area, similar to other injectable treatments. There is a possibility of bruising, but this is usually mild. Most patients can return to normal activities the day after treatment.
After your treatment, it’s vital you protect your skin from the sun and harsh elements and maintain hydration by applying moisturisers and broad-spectrum sunscreen. This will also help protect the skin and prevent damage to the newly forming collagen and elastin cells. You will be given a comprehensive care sheet to take home after your treatment.
PRP is autologous, meaning it takes from your own tissues or cells, so there’s no risk of allergic reaction. Consequently, it’s well-tolerated and has a very low risk of side effects. However, individuals undergoing chemotherapy, with skin diseases such as active SLE, liver disease or abnormal platelet function, or those taking anticoagulant medication such as warfarin or heparin should not have this treatment.
Your platelets are blood cells that play an essential role in tissue repair. They do this by releasing growth factors that activate stem cells in the skin to form new tissue and restore the skin’s structure.
There are many areas of the body that can benefit from PRP therapy. In particular, the face, neck and decolletage are popular areas for treatment, as are the back of hands.
