What is PRP?
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is an innovative treatment option for those looking to improve the health of their skin with a safe and effective procedure. PRP injections involve the isolation of your blood platelets and reinjecting them back into selected areas of the face to kickstart your body’s natural healing and restoration process, reinvigorating your skin. The effects associated with the deterioration of collagen (wrinkles, scars, stretch marks, large pores) will be reduced, leaving you with better looking and feeling skin.
Most areas of the face and body can be treated with PRP. When used in combination with ablative laser, PRP injections produce amazing results for rejuvenation.
Once the consultation is complete, the first step is to take a sample of your blood in the same way a blood test is taken. Following collection, this blood is then treated to isolate the platelets.
After the application of anaesthetic cream, the highly concentrated platelet-rich plasma is then re-injected back into the skin. The procedure will take no longer than 30 minutes.
Within just a few days your skin will begin to look reinvigorated, healthier and glowing. We recommend repeating the procedure in 4-6 weeks’ time to maximise the results and they will continue to improve over a period of up to 12 weeks.
To maintain best results, PRP should be performed on an annual basis, but some patients are so happy with the results that they have it done at least twice a year to maintain a youthful glow to their skin.
Our blood consists mainly of the following components: white blood cells, red blood cells, platelets and plasma. Platelets are a collection of cells found in the blood that are essential to the healing process of the body. Not only do they control bleeding, but they have growth factors and proteins which encourage repair, regeneration and healing in our bodies.
It is the natural healing ability of the platelets that we use to bring a youthful and glowing look to your face.
There are virtually no complications as the product we are using is your body’s natural cells. There may be some minor discomfort experienced for a few days following the procedure, but this is easily treated with paracetamol.
