What are fat dissolving injections?
Fat dissolving injections are a non-surgical way in which small and stubborn areas of fat can be permanently removed. They can be used to contour, sculpt and define parts of the body where stubborn fat remains, despite diet and exercise.
Fat dissolving injections are suitable for a variety of areas across the body but are not a ‘weight loss’ option. They are most suited for small areas of exercise-resistant fat, such as:
- Double chin and lower face
- The back
- Upper arms
Your initial consultation will determine if fat dissolving injections are suitable for your requirements. Prior to the procedure, the treatment area is thoroughly cleaned and numbed and the injections are applied to the targeted area. The solution is then massaged into the area to ensure the solution is well distributed. The treatment should take no longer than 20 minutes.
Visible results are usually seen within 4-6 weeks of the procedure. Depending on the size and depth of fat desired to be dissolved in the targeted area, up to three further treatments may be required. Once fat cells have been dissolved, they are generally not replaced by the body, so the results are long-lasting and can last for a few years, especially if accompanied by a healthy exercise and nutrition routine.
The injection solutions are made from a synthetic form of a naturally occurring substance. They work by attacking the fat cells and breaking them down. The cells are then absorbed into the body and eliminated through the kidneys.
There are very few complications when administered by trained medical professionals. Immediately after the procedure there may be swelling, bruising or tenderness at the site of the injections, but this is normal and is resolved in the weeks immediately following the procedure. It is advised not to scratch or agitate the injection site. As the dissolved fat cells are also cleared through the kidneys, it is also imperative to maintain adequate water intake following your treatment. Discuss any concerns with Dr Sam at your consultation.
