What are Collagen Stimulating Injections?

Collagen is a natural protein found throughout the body, in connective tissues and the skin.  With ageing, a reduction in collagen can cause skin to sag and these injections, using a powdered medication mixed with a local anaesthetic can help stimulate the body’s natural collagen production when injected under the skin. There are products that provide collagen that can be consumed orally, but unfortunately they do not have the same effects.

Most areas of the face and body can be treated.  Some areas respond better than others and this is where the expertise of the doctor and trained professionals at Samara medical and cosmetic clinics can determine the best treatment option for the patient.

Common areas treated are:

  • Neck & Decolletage
  • Back of Hands
  • Mid-face

The treatment areas are cleaned with antiseptic and then numbed with anaesthetic.

The product is injected using either a cannula or needle and the area is required to be massaged following the treatment for the next 4-5 days.

The treatment is then repeated after 2-3 months for best results.

Once both treatments are completed, the results generally tend to last between 2-3 years.

The process can take several weeks or even months to see the effect and is not immediate.

The medication is a powerful collagen stimulator. The cells that produce collagen in our body can slow down with age  and sometimes even come to a complete stop

These injections placed under the skin ‘wake up’ the cells to recommence collagen and elastin production.

There is a possibility of nodule formation, particularly if the area is not massaged regularly following treatment.
